Compound Steam Cylinder Oil ST
Developed for steam locomotives operating on the national rail network or heritage lines where lubrication which can become problematic with more traditional heavier grades.
Locomotives operating under superheat conditions can cause lesser, heavy cylinder grades to form carbonaceous deposits around piston rings, valves and cylinders. These deposits, which can lead to accelerated wear or sticking, are virtually eliminated by the careful selection of base oils, additives and precisely targeted quality control testing.
Higher speeds require higher feed rates, low viscous drag and effective atomisation. Increased oil feeds, high superheat and speeds require a robust formulation with low carbon forming tendency. The targeted formulation also contains surface active additives to ensure bores remain lubricated and wet during shutdown periods reducing corrosion.
Applications
This robust formulation is able to withstand higher piston speeds, superheat temperatures and highly efficient surface additives to ensure water and rust resistance during operation and long after shutdown or over wintering.
