The latest round of the British Truck Racing Championship took place at Thruxton Race Circuit over the weekend, with Morris Lubricants Racing Ambassadors Dave Jenkins, Craig Reid and Simon Reid all competing. With five races scheduled to take place, it was an opportunity for the trio to pick up as many points as possible, before the next round at Donington Park in August.
Dave Jenkins
Morris Lubricants Racing Ambassador Dave Jenkins was looking to make up for a frustrating weekend in the previous round at Pembrey at the beginning of May, where mechanical issues plagued the veteran racer. The 2011 British Truck Racing Champion made a solid start to the weekend, with a podium finish as he finished third in the opening race. Despite setting the second-quickest lap on the grid, Jenkins was plagued by suspension problems in the second race and came home in a frustrating tenth position. By the second day of racing action, in the third race, Dave was determined to make up for this result. He did just that, as he took the win, just ahead of fellow Morris Lubricants Racing Ambassador Simon Reid. By the fourth race of the weekend, Dave took seventh spot and in the final race of the weekend, Dave was not classified as he wasn't running at the showing of the red flag.
Dave's next racing weekend will be at his local track at Donington Park. He will be aiming to pick up as many points as possible as he nears the halfway-point of the season. He currently sits in fourth position in the driver's standings.
Craig Reid
The 2021 Division 2 British Truck Racing Champion was looking to pick up as many points as possible to start moving his way up the driver's standings as the season nears the halfway point. Following on from the previous round at Pembrey Circuit, Craig was in ninth position. Craig made a solid start to the weekend, finishing in eighth and ninth position in races one and two. By Sunday, Craig had one of his best races of the season, finishing in fifth position, which was then followed up with ninth and eighth place finishes in the final two races.
Craig will now be looking forward to the next round at Donington Park, which takes place on 20th and 21st August. Whilst Craig remains in ninth position overall, he is less than 20 points behind fifth position in the standings.
Simon Reid
Craig's brother Simon was looking to mount his challenge for the top 3 of the Championship Standings, as he headed to Thruxton with just 16 points separating him in fifth place and the driver in second place. Simon had an extremely consistent weekend with three podium finishes which were in rounds two, three and four, as he took third, second and second, respectively. In rounds one and five, Simon finished fifth and sixth.
Simon's consistent, high-finishes saw him climb two places in the standings, as he now sits in third place and less than 20 points behind second place. He'll be looking to maintain his excellent form in the next round at Donington Park next month.
